Yasmin P. Tirol is Professor III and Dean, BS Fisheries Program at the College of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Aklan State University, New Washington, Aklan. She had served as Campus Director of the ASU-New Washington Campus from 2015-2020 and as Fisheries
and Marine Science Department Chair from 2013-2015. She earned her B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Fisheries at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences- University of the Philippines Visayas, Miagao, Iloilo.
She had also studied Tropical Ecology and Resource Management at the Department of Systems Ecology in Stockholm University. She gained research experience while working in various research projects and programs at the University of the Philippines-Marine Science Institute (UP-MSI) and the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center-Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC-AQD).
She served as President of the Philippine Association of Marine Science (PAMS 2017-2019) and Member- Academe Representative of the National Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council (NFARMC) in 2017-2021. In advocating for the sustainable use and conservation of our fisheries, marine and coastal resources, she has lead and coordinated various research, extension and collaboration projects with international and national partners. One of these was the research project on the Prototype Hybrid Trimaran- Phase 1 that innovates the renewable energy aspect of marine transport.
More recently, she has collaborated with international partners for the JICA and JST funded BlueCARES Project. At present, she coordinates the InCORE Project, a collaboration with U.P. Visayas, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Kajima Inc. funded by the Asian Development Bank on the integrated approach to coral reef restoration.
