Brief History
The Research and Development Services (RDS) Unit of the Aklan State College of Agriculture then, now Aklan State University was established in the year 1992. Superintendent Dr. Helmar E. Aguilar appointed Dr. Benny A. Palma as the first RDS Director and he served the unit until June 1994. He pioneered the implementation of R&D projects and activities in agriculture and forestry. After his term, Dr. Edito T. Agustin was appointed as Director from July 1994 until December 5, 2004. He continued the R&D operation and initiated several externally funded and grants-in aid research programs and projects.
When Dr. Agustin ended his term, Dr. Elsa I. Abayon was designated as Officer In-Charge of the Unit from December 6, 2004 to January 31, 2006. On February 1, 2006, she was officially designated as Director of the RDS Unit until March 31, 2011. Dr. Abayon established multidisciplinary researches and organized research.

Goal
Produce quality research with strong local and international partnerships that are responsive to the diverse needs of society.
Objectives
• Increase research productivity in terms of publication, patent, products, people services, places and partnerships, and policies. Increase utilization of research output by industry
• Establish a University research center. Produce protectable IPs and IPRs through quality research for technology transfer.
• Present research outputs in national and international research fora and symposia
• Conduct quality researches that promote public health, gender equality, cultural preservation, environmental integrity, empowerment of communities, policy formulation and development.
